ELLEN JOVIN is the author of several books on grammar and writing and is a cofounder of Syntaxis, a communication skills training consultancy based in New York City. She has a BA in German from Harvard College and an MA in comparative literature from UCLA. Jovin has studied more than 25 languages for fun.
