CourseGraphic In August of 1776, the first and largest battle of the American Revolution was fought on the hilltop of today’s Green-Wood Cemetery. Learn about the battle as our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Start at the high Victorian gothic revival brownstone gates designed by the distinguished American architect, Richard Upjohn. Walk up the hill to glimpse the Upper Hudson Bay Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. Take in the history of this 478-acre cemetery, view some of its impressive monuments honoring those of the Civil War, and visit the grave sites of some of New York City’s prominent citizens.

Please note: Rigorous walk covers approximately 1.5 hilly miles on trails with uneven ground and some stairs.
