Instructor Biography: Deirdre Sinnott
DEIRDRE SINNOTT is an independent scholar, author, and social change activist. She grew up in Utica, New York and graduated from Syracuse University, where she earned a BFA in acting and directing. She is a frequent public speaker at historical societies and national and regional history conferences. She was the initiator of Utica’s Abolition History Day Celebration, and has directed two documentary films on contemporary mass incarceration/prison issues. Her writing has appeared in newspapers, anthologies, literary journals, and online publications. She is an historical consultant for the Fort Stanwix Underground Railroad History Project, funded by the National Park Service.
