American Stories from Sargent to O’Keeffe, running October 15, 2026 through October 10, 2027 displays forty-five masterworks from the colonial period and Hudson River School to the present day. Highlights include iconic paintings such as Georgia O’Keeffe’s White Flower on Red Earth, No. 1, Edward Hopper’s The Sheridan Theatre, portraits by John Singer Sargent and Mickalene Thomas, luminous landscapes by Albert Bierstadt and Marsden Hartley, and powerful sculptures by Alexander Calder, Louise Nevelson, and Martin Puryear. Coinciding with the nation’s 250th anniversary, American Stories is organized into four sections — identity, belonging, belief, and making — to reveal how artists shape our understanding of America, past and present.
