The Scarsdale Adult School remains strong during its 83rd year of operation. Our response to COVID-19 has been robust and creative, yet many challenges remain ahead.

In March 2020, when suddenly forced to cancel all in-person classes due to the pandemic, SAS moved to online instruction. Through the creativity and skill of the SAS community, offerings have increased to almost 1,000 online classes serving over 17,000 students. Throughout these difficult times, Scarsdale Adult School continued providing opportunities for people with wide-ranging interests to pursue stimulating and varied classes. The geographic locations of SAS students and instructors expanded to over 500 zip codes across the United States and Europe. The remote instruction format allowed people isolated by COVID-19 restrictions to engage with others and maintain some semblance of social interaction.

We were able to resume some in-person instruction in the spring of 2021, and have added more of those opportunities each week while still offering a full assortment of online classes. Our students have reported experiencing an enhanced sense of community as they are now able to meet classmates initially befriended online.

We still face many challenges as we plan for the future, operating under constantly evolving pandemic guidelines and restrictions. Uncertainty in the coming months will continue to present new challenges. Additional funds are needed to prepare for the unexpected.

The Scarsdale Adult School is totally self-supporting. We receive no funding from any school district or municipality. The costs of instructors, operational fees, and staff salaries are met by tuition and the generous tax-deductible contributions of the members of our Board of Trustees and Advisory Committee, ongoing supporters, and new donors. Our tuition rates remain low to provide affordable adult education opportunities for a greater number of students.

Please join the SAS community by contributing generously. Your gift will enable the Scarsdale Adult School to keep “opening doors to learning.” Follow this link to view the Campaign 2021 Honor Roll.

For Teacher Appreciation Week, from Monday, May 2, 2022 through Friday, May 6, 2022, we encourage donors to honor SAS instructors by identifying them by name in the "Comments" field below. Every gift made in honor of our teaching staff this week will be matched by an anonymous donor in recognition of their dedication to SAS.
