The Met’s collection of Egyptian art and artifacts has fascinated museum visitors for over one hundred and fifty years, as one of the finest and most comprehensive in the world. This walking tour is a companion to the lecture series that presents a virtual in-depth exploration of its holdings, from the Predynastic and the Old Kingdom eras through the time of the Ptolemies and Roman Occupation. With over 24,000 objects, the collection offers an extraordinary window into the history, daily life, religious beliefs and aesthetic values of the ancient Egyptians throughout their exceptional civilization. Encounter some of the larger-than-life personalities featured in the galleries, from the palace administrator Perneb, the treasurer Meketre and the female pharaoh Hatshepsut, to the rebel Akhenaten, the great builder Ramses II and the last queen of Egypt, Cleopatra VII.
