This lecture will preview several of the cases on the Supreme Court's docket for the upcoming 2026-27 term that begins, as usual, on the first Monday in October. Cook County (right to posses semiautomatic assault weapons under the 2nd and 14th Amendments), Suncor Energy v. County Commissioners of Boulder County (whether federal law blocks state law climate torts), St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy (free exercise clause in context of sexual and gender identity discrimination), Republican National Committee v. Mi Familia Vota (voter registration and federal vs. state powers under the National Voter Registration Act), and Genalo v. Black (due process clause and prolonged immigrant detention).
