This series explores the often understudied role of the dealer, considering how dealers impacted collectors, artists, museum holdings and larger movements, from courts of the Renaissance to the global powerhouses of the 21st century. The series focuses on major dealers in both old masters and contemporary art and the ways in which they shaped the art world. Key players include such luminaries as Joseph Duveen, Durand Ruel, Leo Castelli and Larry Gagosian, with many more in between. The series traces the history of the profession, with lots of fabulous art (and some good gossip too!), making us aware of the unsung heroes (and sometimes villains) of the history of art.
