Travel the globe to discover exceptional short story writers with unique subjects and styles. Location, time, focus, and character development all play important parts to the stories. The selections are connected not through geography but by their quality. For the first session, begin in Greece with Christos Ikonomou's "Where They Always Meet" and then travel to California for Yiyun Li's "A Man Like Him." Students will receive PDFs of the assignments via email one week in advance of class and are asked to read once for story and a second time for setting, plot, character development, and theme. Students will also receive discussion prompts and are encouraged to submit written responses to be shared prior to class.
