ClassGraphic Featuring 25 debut installations within the Andrew and Louise Carnegie Mansion, Making Home — Smithsonian Design Triennial (November 2, 2024 through August 10, 2025) explores the influence of design on the geographical, cultural, and social perspectives of "home" in the United States, with different themes on each floor. “Going Home” (ground and first floor) considers how people shape and are shaped by domestic spaces. “Seeking Home” (second floor) addresses a range of institutional, experimental, and utopian contexts to examine the idea of home through the lenses of cultural heritage, the human body, imagined landscapes, and refuge. “Building Home” (third floor) presents alternatives to single-family construction models, such as community space and cooperative living, recognizing issues such as housing precarity, environmental concerns, and considerations for memory and aging.
