Just released, Anne Tyler's twenty-fifth novel concerns an assistant headmistress at a private girl's school being pushed out of her job just as her daughter is about to get married. The woman's ex-husband comes to town for the wedding with a cat in need of a home, expecting to stay with her. After the bride learns something about the groom that calls into question whether the wedding will occur, the protagonist reveals the infidelity that caused her own divorce and stirs up past emotions. This latest book from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author depicts the joys and heartaches of love and marriage with sensitivity and a tart sense of humor.
