The Lower East Side is the fabled immigrant landing pad, home successively to Germans, Jewish immigrants from eastern Europe, Puerto Ricans, and Chinese. Learn about these groups, about tenement and synagogue architecture, settlement houses, and much, much more — as well as about the gentrified neighborhood of today, with its swanky new condos and Michelin-starred restaurants (though some may still prefer Russ & Daughters). This tour will focus on the area South of Delancey. For an optimum experience, register for the related tour covering the area North of Delancey (Course 13352).
