What makes a musical composition a masterpiece? Examine select western music from a variety of eras and genres in the last millennium, mixing the well known and well worn with unfamiliar works deserving of more attention. While a few examples from rock, jazz, and folk traditions will be included, the majority of works will be classical. Engage your curiosity, whether you are a classical music novice or aficionado. Possible inclusions (subject to change): Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Thelonious Monk’s ‘Round Midnight, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, and music by Bach, Beethoven, Benjamin Britten, and the Beach Boys.
