Gabriele Münter was a key figure in the development of modern art in Europe during the early twentieth century and a notable in the Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter), a transnational affiliation of artists who explored how color and form could express deep emotions and spiritual ideas. A leading figure in the avant-garde art scene in Munich and nearby Murnau, she also spent time in Scandinavia, where Nordic modernism influences led to a shift in her artistic style. Münter reimagined the traditional genres of still life, landscape, and portraiture with bold, vibrant colors. Gabriele Münter: Contours of a World, running November 7, 2025 through April 26, 2026, features nearly 80 paintings and photographs, primarily from 1908 to 1920, but also including some later works to illustrate her progression.
