Ben Shahn, On Nonconformity (running May 23, 2025 through October 12, 2025) at the Jewish Museum presents a retrospective of the artwork of the social realist and activist from the 1930s to the 1960s. On display are 175 paintings, murals, prints, photographs, and more on subjects of social justice, unemployment, discrimination, authoritarianism, free expression, human rights, and Jewish spirituality. Shahn’s philosophy of nonconformity, which he asserted was indispensable to artistic production and change, serves as the unifying thread for his artwork. This tour will be led by a Jewish Museum educator while the Jewish Museum is closed to the general public.
