ClassGraphic Richard Diebenkorn and Ed Ruscha became two of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. Their paintings translated Southern California into modern interpretations of color, form, and iconic imagery. Diebenkorn evolved from a figurative artist strongly influenced by Matisse to explore the urban landscape of Santa Monica in abstract masterworks. Ruscha became a leader of California pop art, combining ironic words with iconic images that defined a new aesthetic in painting.
