Beethoven’s “Odd” Symphonies

ID : 8094
« back to classes page

In 2020, music celebrations around the world will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.  Beethoven’s nine symphonies are the cornerstone of orchestral literature and influenced composers for the next hundred years and more.  His compositions were a revolution on every level: harmonic, melodic, rhythmic, formal, dramatic, self-expressive, and emotional. Having looked at the even-numbered symphonies in the fall semester, this course will explore the more frequently performed odd-numbered ones — 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.
