CourseGraphic This armchair tour of Frida and Diego: The Last Dream, running March 21, 2026 through September 12, 2026 at MoMA will enhance your visit or serve as a fine substitute for those unable to go in person. The exhibit celebrates Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, romantic partners and two of Mexico’s most iconic artists in a movement that redefined Mexican culture and identity after the revolution of 1910–20. MoMA has collaborated with the Metropolitan Opera's production team of "El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego" to bring together paintings, drawings, photographic portraits of the artists in an installation created by the opera's set and costume designer. The fictional narrative of the opera begins three years after Kahlo’s death in 1954 and follows an aging Rivera as he summons the deceased Kahlo back to life on the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday honoring passed loved ones. As the opera and installation design attest, the pair continue to have an enduring influence on artists across the visual and performing arts.
